MIDnet Announces Award to Oklahoma State University

LINCOLN, Neb, July 7, 2003 - MIDnet, Inc. is pleased to announce it has awarded Oklahoma State University a grant to implement a proof-of-concept project using videoconferencing technology to collaboratively teach architecture programs at several universities. The project will introduce architecture students to a highly diverse learning experience while leveraging network technology to increase program reach and reduce overall cost. Dr. Eric Connell at OSU’s School of Architecture is the lead investigator in the project.

"Oklahoma State University has been a leader in technology integration and this project is no exception. It has enormous regional and national implications. It will provide valuable data, training and experience to universities who are planning program expansions and/or need to maintain quality programs in the face of increased budget reductions,” stated MIDnet Executive Director Carol Farnham.

MIDnet became the first of the regional networks (the pre-cursor to today's Internet) to become fully operational in 1987. MIDnet's original focus was to create a regional network for accessing and exchanging information. Throughout its history, information exchange continued to be a major focus. MIDnet moved from a University of Nebraska organization to non-profit status in 1992. Two years later, MIDnet was acquired by a California start-up. The board of directors of MIDnet reorganized and has reestablished MIDnet as a quality provider of network education and information exchange.
